About Us
History

Headquartered in Roswell, GA, a suburb of Atlanta, YourRespite was started in 2007 by Stacy Georges, a stay at home mother of two and licensed in Therapeutic Recreation. As a parent of a challenging duo of children, Stacy became involved in a support group of mothers whose children had even more challenges. It was through this association that Stacy recognized the needs of these families; for rest, for respite, for relaxation from their exhausting and unrelenting loving care for their children. Although the group existed to support each other, group members were hesitant to call on one another for help in this area; after all, everyone was pretty much in the same boat. When Stacy asked some group members if she could take care of their children, they were hesitant to call on a friend for so great a favor. However, they were willing to do so as a business arrangement. Thus YourRespite got its start.

Currently, Stacy also coordinates a special needs support group for moms in the North Metro Atlanta area. If you want to be added to our special needs support group email list, please fill out this form.  You can also "like" the YourRespite facebook page and follow us on Twitter to receive updates on events and issues.

What We Do

YourRespite provides childcare, in your home, for your special needs children, up to age 19

We understand the needs of parents who care for their children 24/7, and we understand that you love your children too much to trust them to just anyone. You've asked family, friends, church, support groups, and while they often come through, you want to be able to experience rest, respite, and relaxation without transferring your responsibilities on them yet again. Let us step in and help. We will help you by taking care of your child or children for the evening, or even over a weekend, while you enjoy some well-deserved time for yourself. With our experience in Recreation Therapy within the rehab and nursing home community, we can turn the time into a memorable one for both you and your children.

We are committed to your child's well being

YourRespite goes beyond "baby sitting." You know that you cannot just call on your next door neighbor's teenage daughter to take care of your child. You need someone who understands your child's needs completely, is able to assist your child in every way needed, and can be trusted to care for your child in your stead. We take what we do seriously, and care for your children as if they were our own. We take the time to understand your child's needs, likes, dislikes, and fears. We are there to help you have peace of mind as you give yourself some R&R.

We can help where others cannot

We understand that your church, your family, and your support group all love your child. But often just when you need to "get away" yourself, you find that these groups can only offer to help on their terms, and not yours. We can step in and help when you need it. We work with you to set up a time that works with your schedule and within your means. You can come to us any time you need us. We are here to help.

What we are not

While on the surface what we do may seem similar to a typical baby sitting or daycare service, we are neither.  For example, if you are looking for someone to pick up your child from school every day because you are working, or for someone to sit for your child while you work second or third shift, these are not the kinds of services for which YourRespite is a good fit.  Respite care is for you to enjoy well-deserved time for yourself, which is not easy (and sometimes impossible) when you're the parent of a special needs child. There are other childcare arrangements for these other kinds situations, such as a nanny or daycare. YourRespite understands that these situations are not easy ones, but we believe that you are much better served financially or otherwise with a more traditional childcare arrangement in these type of cases. But please feel free to call or email and we will be happy to talk to you about your situation, and whether or not YourRespite is a good fit for you!
